Great start to Term 3!

Dear 6B,

thank you for the (somewhat) positive start to the term.

I appreciate the fact that everyone brought your thermometers - great job! I can also see more effort in your work , do keep it up and let's stay in focus :).

For those of us who found the start negative in some way,

remember the Circle of Influence.

Is it(whatever is making you negative/stressed/sad) something you can control?

If yes, DO something about it.

If no, PAUSE. Take a breathe and....

PS Here are the notes and answers for GR 2 and GR 3.

General Revision 2

1.      Both bank notes look identical only one does not have the official watermark.

(The “only” already indicates that the notes are not identical, so there is no need for the word “almost”.)

2.      In order to fulfil his promise to the king, the knight rode to the ends of the world.

(Some wrote ‘ends’ as ‘end’.)

3.      Together with the cast, the director was given a standing ovation at the award ceremony.

(While I accepted ‘cast’ and ‘director’ as interchangeable, cast is still a singular noun. So the verb will still be ‘was’.)

4.      Neither the crops nor the farm animals survived the drought.

5.      Joshua has been eagerly looking forward to Christmas ever since he learnt about Santa Claus last month.

(‘Christmas’ was commonly misspelt.)

6.      The thief, as well as his gang, was arrested on Monday.

(The additional phrase should be between two commas.)

7.      Ben, Nasri and Donald would like to join the soccer team.

(The three names are interchangeable.)

8.      Either knife is sharp enough to slice the lemon in two.

(‘Either’ usually refers to only one, so the verb is always singular.)

9.      The price offered for my flat was too low, moreover, I love living in this estate.

(‘Moreover’ should be between two commas.)

10.  Mrs Tan was so taken aback by the man who whipped out a knife suddenly that she could not move a muscle.

(‘so…that’ – Her emotion was so strong that she reacted that way. Since we are emphasising this, the order should not be changed.)

4.      All the guests, except Robert, thanked the host for the wonderful party.

(additional info should be between two commas)

5.      The police mounted an island-wide search in order to recapture the fugitive.

6.      The baby did not start learning to crawl until he was seven months old.

The baby did not learn to crawl until he was seven months old.

The baby had not learnt to crawl until he was seven months old.

(‘The baby did not crawl’ has a different meaning from ‘did not start to learn to crawl’ – think of it!)

7.      Jolene refused to don the clown’s costume lest her friends laugh at her.

(Please revise this connector again!)

8.      That is the wizard whose sudden appearance frightened everyone.

(‘appearance’ was commonly misspelt.)

9.      My doggy will not do tricks unless we feed it some doggy treats.

10.  That is the bungalow where the Nair family lived for the past twenty years.

(‘at’ is unnecessary.)
